Research Group

Welcome to the Wales BSL and Deaf Research Group page!

The research group is headed by a group of like-minded individuals, both deaf and hearing, who want to raise the profile of research in the field of British Sign Language (BSL) and Deaf Studies in Wales. This field encompasses a wide-ranging number of topics from anthropology, law, psychology to social policy.

Our aims

To bring research into BSL and deaf issues in Wales into one central place.

Who we are

We are a group of Deaf and hearing professionals with an interest in all things related to BSL, Deaf people and Wales

What we do
  • We lead research into BSL and d/Deaf issues in Wales
  • We provide training and mentoring opportunities for d/Deaf people who wish to engage in research
  • We prevent hearing researchers using the Deaf community to further own agenda without due regard to the needs and wants and at the expense of deaf researchers and deaf people
  • We disseminate research opportunities for deaf people
  • We will provide a repository for Wales-related BSL and deaf research publications, theses, MSc and BA/BSc/LLB research projects
  • We provide a platform from which funding applications can be made through universities and otherwise.
